Jazz is the purest of all American art forms and jazz musicians are among our most inventive and creative artists.
Since 2004, I have been painting "Faces of Jazz," a tribute to jazz musicians. It is a series of portraits of favorite musicians. To date, 2009, I have completed approximately 60-plus portraits. It is an on-going project.
Originally the series represented musicians of the 50s and 60s; I have since painted contemporary and local musicians.
Being a sports enthusiast, I appreciate the movement & action of athletes & have painted a series of sports work, "Athletes in Action.
I am currently (2010), I am working on my "back-to-nature" series including landscapes, waterscapes and animals.
I am an alumnus of UCD with BA and MFA degrees in art. I studied with Wayne Thiebaud, Bob Arneson, Joe Raffael and Roland Petersen. I am a figurative painter with a representational style. Recently, my work is becoming looser and more abstract.I love "pushing the paint:" as a result, the new work highlights impasto and multiple brushstrokes, especially the nature series....
